Why I support Rebecca Harrison-White

Rebecca Harrison is more than just a candidate for the Green Party. She is an advocate, tireless campaigner, and an incredibly bright young woman.

She holds two positions on our Shadow Cabinet as both the Poverty Elimination Critic and Status of Women Critic. She has been an advocate in both of these areas for most of her life.

Rebecca has done a fantastic job working to develop the Green approach to the issue of poverty elimination, working with organizations such as Make Poverty History Canada and Canada Without Poverty. She has also represented the Green Party at debates and forums across the country.

We are thrilled to have such an inspired and articulate woman as a candidate in this important riding. Rebecca is an indispensable part of our Green Team.

WHY REBECCA, WHY GREEN, WHY NOW?

Rebecca Harrison will be 28 years of age at election time. Although she is young she has a lifetime of political experience and public service. Rebecca was born into a political family and took part in her first municipal election at the age of 3 years. For the next 15 years of her life she lived municipal politics. With a father that was a politician and her mother that was a municipal administrator, Rebecca was immersed in political discussions from the very beginning. This early beginning and the special balance of administration versus political thinking has given Rebecca a very unique outlook on the world of politics. Rebecca has an understanding of what public service is about that is well beyond her years. Rebecca's early life experiences have caused her to have a deep sense of community. Her husband Chris and her have made Whitby their home and they have both worked tirelessly to make Whitby a better place for all that live there. Rebecca has become a strong advocate for the elimination of child poverty. She became a member of the Green Party of Canada because she saw it as the party most likely to affect the changes we require now for future generations.
